The Tank is a bit faster and a bit better at cracking big units while the Walker is a bit slower and doubles as artillery sometimes. Both are heavy units that prefer to engage from 7 range. Most egregiously, their tier 3 units seem to be just minor riffs on each other. Nothing else in the Vanguard arsenal seems exciting to me. With Vanguard, I feel Troopers are a pretty decent tier 1 unit that you can crank out of any settlement at any time and never feel like you've made the wrong unit. Now after that game, I want to try my hand playing another race, but I can't really get excited about any of the other races. I liked the idea that the Assembly had two pretty synergistic Tier 3 units, with an artillery unit and a pretty resilient melee unit that protects them. I later found that Wreckers to also be units that I had playing around with, being pretty resilient and capable, with a fun meaty noise when they hit people. I used Assembly and initially wanted to spam Disassemblers because I thought their nanite shell would be fun to play with. It took a few tries before I finally had a game that I felt like sticking in. I found myself restarting a lot to things like losing key units in battle or just finding myself directionless. So two expansions later, with a patch that simplifies exploitations, I finally started to try this game. I was finding it kind of hard to get excited about playing this game when I hadn't figured out how the economy works, and I kept delaying figuring out how the economy works. At first, the exploitations kept me out of the game. I had Planetfall on my computer since it launched, but haven't really played it seriously until recently.
